What is VIP?
VIP is a native human peptide: twenty-eight residues acting through the VPAC1 and VPAC2 receptors, with roles described across smooth-muscle tone, immune modulation, circadian signalling, and secretory biology. Its breadth is the point — VIP sits near the centre of several fields at once.
What researchers study it for
As a well-mapped native sequence, VIP is a foundational reference peptide. Receptor-pharmacology work uses it as the benchmark agonist against which analogs are judged; immune and pulmonary models use it as the canonical VPAC-pathway input. The practical obstacle has always been supply: the native peptide degrades quickly and is impractical to isolate, so well-characterised synthetic VIP is what actually enables the work — reconstituted close to use, per the usual handling principles.
